I sent this for the next Sounder: January was busy for amateur radio on Anderson Island. At Winter Field Day, club members focused on sending emails and text messages over HF radio to island community member’s “out of area” contacts. Member’s of the Anderson Island Prepares pitched in by filling out an email form with their out area contact’s information and a short test message. In the event of an actual emergency, Amateur Radio operators can use Winlink to send email anywhere in the world. We successfully connected to several regional Winlink servers. A Winlink server is a station on the internet that acts as a bridge between radio and email. The radio club website – https://wa7ai.org/wp/ – has been significantly updated and now includes an interactive forum, calendar, and blog to help members communicate and document club activity. Finally, CW (Morse code) classes started with several participants who are also musicians. Morse code is, in essence, a series of rhythmic patterns of long and short sounds, much like musical notes, and is both challenging and fun.:
